The Reluctant Mermaid

one woman unwilling to swim in the same direction as the others

walk it off... walk it off...

That's what my gym teacher used to say whenever anyone got a mild injury. Today, I'm walking off my pain with these cutie-pie red shoes. Don't the buttons just kill you?
Recently, I discovered something missing that was very important to me. It was taken from me without any regard for my feelings about it, without any conversation even asking if I may be willing to give it up. It was there, and then it was gone. And so were my last remaining feelings of tolerance and compassion that I had been so compelled to give, without really thinking about what I needed in return. Which, I now see was never considered. What I needed was never considered and kindnesses were never reciprocated.
SO, I said, "that is IT" that's the last time I'm going to be walked all over... the last time I'm going to be stepped on and crushed like a little bug.
I'm walking it off... in adorable red flats.
