It's about these families who live on a another planet that is rainy all the time. Every day is rain rain rain. And there is one day a year that the sun comes for 2 hours. A small girl, who the kids tease gets locked in a closet as a cruel joke when the sun comes so she doesn't get to see it- except for a small ray of light that makes it's way under the bottom of the closet of the door. She holds that beam of light in her hand and that's all she gets. Cruel... kids are little jerks sometimes (even fictional ones). Anyways- that story has somehow stuck with me my entire life. I've always remembered it, partly because it was a Wonderworks special... but mostly because I always felt like Margot- the small, shy little girl who was forgotten about while a bigger and brighter thing was happening in the world. But I'm not going to lament. I've been feeling pretty happy lately and I refuse to go "back there"
SO my point is, guess what... the weather here in coastal New England is not unlike that in Ray Bradbury's story. Rain. Rain. Rain. But yesterday we saw that "bright penny in the sky" and the children enjoyed a day at the beach... throwing rocks... and getting leopard shoes nice and sandy (only Iris would wear leopard shoes to the beach.
But on the rainy days, I've been busy sewing... sewing bags, sewing these fancy little pants (our of 2 bandanas from the dollar section at Target). Cleaning up the studio and preparing to take part in my first ever art challenge. Designing an original skateboard with my art. Whoa. Heavy stuff. I keep psyching myself up and out of this fear by saying "I can rock this... I can rock this... I can rock this..." and maybe I can.

I referenced the same story yesterday, feeling like the little girl in the closet because almost everyone else went on a field trip, and I had to stay and mind the office. I was fearing that it might be all the summer we would have.
